Linha do Leste’s railway modernization works started

On March 5, Teixeira Duarte – Engenharia e Construções, S.A., started working on the Modernization of Linha do Leste, in the Elvas – Fronteira section.

The contract was signed with IP – Infraestruturas de Portugal in January 2018, for the amount of 14,995,656 Euros, with the execution period of 12 months.
The work involves the complete renewal of the track and treatment of the railway platform in an extension of 11 kilometers between Elvas and Fronteira, the extension and adaptation of the lay-out of the Elvas station to allow the crossing of trains with 750 meters long, the construction and restoration of road unevennessments to eliminate the existing level crossings, and the replacement of Caiola and Caia railway bridges’ deck and pillar reinforcement .

Contribution to the renewal of the Portuguese railway line
In recent years, Teixeira Duarte – Engenharia e Construções, SA, mainly through its subsidiary Somafel, has intervened in the modernization of more than 220 kilometers of railroad in the national territory, namely in Linha do Norte and Linha do Sul. Internationaly, it is worth mentioning the ongoing intervention on the railway section between Thenia and Tizi-Ouzou in Algeria, with 50 kilometers long.
