Teixeira Duarte refurbishes a building
designed by Oscar Niemeyer in downtown

A company from the Teixeira Duarte Group company has signed a contract for the refurbishment of a building in downtown Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, designed in 1960 by architect Oscar Niemeyer and used by multinational company VALE as its headquarters until 2015.
The building, designed by “Barão de Mauá” and owned by “VALIA – Rio Doce Valley Social Security Foundation”, has an approximate area of 23,700m2, including two car park levels and twenty two floors of offices. In addition to the construction designs, the project includes the refurbishment of common areas, the full replacement of all air conditioning, power and hydraulic infrastructure and the renovation of the lifts. The contract was signed for 45 million reais (around 13.4 million euros) and the project will last for 12 months.
In addition, finishings may be provided for the open space office areas, in this case adding a value of 26.6 million reais (around 7.9 million euros).
VALE, S.A. is a renowned multi-national company in the mining sector, with whom the Teixeira Duarte group has worked in Brazil and Mozambique in different areas of construction, such as Geotechnics and Refurbishment, Infrastructure, Metal-mechanical engineering and railways. The contract being announced now is the first in the construction sector.
